About the Expo
The Research & Innovation Expo (RIE) is a competitive showcase for bold ideas, original research, and innovative solutions. Hosted during AZ Tech Week 2026, RIE provides students the opportunity to present their work at a university venue and engage with experts in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.
Who Can Participate
Open to 2nd grade students to Undergraduate levels in 4 categories:
*2nd to 5th graders
*6th to 8th graders
*9th to 12th graders
* Undergraduates
Students may participate individually or in teams and present research, prototypes, or innovation-focused projects across STEM and interdisciplinary domains.

- 8:00 – 9:00 AM
Registration & Project Check-In
Participants arrive, complete registration, and set up projects for judging and display. - 9:00 – 9:30 AM
Opening & Welcome Address
Welcome remarks by Dr. Robert Walker, Director of Community Initiatives, University of Advancing Technology - 9:30 – 11:30 AM
Showcase Judging Session
Judges evaluate student projects across innovation, research depth, technical execution, and impact. - 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Public Showcase, Refreshments & Networking
Projects open for viewing by parents, educators, industry partners, and the wider community. Light refreshments served; informal networking encouraged. Judges convene. - 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Prize Distribution & Closing Ceremony
Awards presentation, recognitions, and closing remark
